How Gateway works

A controlled process from factory to UK.

Seven stages, each producing evidence that travels with the order.

The process

The seven stages

  1. 01

    Factory onboarding

Establish the manufacturer, structure, capabilities and relevant production routes.

  2. 02

    Supply-chain assessment

Identify what is produced in-house and what is purchased or outsourced.

  3. 03

    Risk assessment

Determine where evidence and testing are proportionate to the material and construction.

  4. 04

    Testing & evidence

Create appropriate evidence before or during production using suitable test methods.

  5. 05

    Manufacturing

Use the approved evidence and controls within the relevant production process.

  6. 06

    Pre-export evidence

Maintain the evidence trail associated with the Gateway order.

  7. 07

    UK Assay Office

Ship Gateway orders directly into one of the four UK Assay Offices, with further testing instructed by the importer where required.

Operational routing

Gateway orders are intended to be shipped directly into one of the four UK Assay Offices: London, Birmingham, Sheffield and Edinburgh. This describes operational routing; it does not imply endorsement by any Assay Office.
